NAMED LINES Some screen based or display consoles allow lines to be named. This is very useful for offices such as business centres with a number companies sharing an operator. That way incoming calls can be answered with the appropriate greeting.
NIGHT SERVICE Night service can be programmed so that call answered outside normal working hours can be handled in a different way. They may be routed to a specified extension, such as a security guard’s office. They may be answered from all or specified extensions or they may be routed to a voicemail which makes an announcement and/or takes messages if the switchboard is unmanned.
NMS Network Management System. A system which monitors networked PBXs or keysystems and provides the network manager with information on traffic levels and congestion, fault management and call accounting.
NODE An intelligent routing point on the telephone network, for example an ACD or PBX.
NT1 First customer premise device on a two-wire ISDN circuit coming in from the ISDN central office.
